We have the following activities and programmes available for Year 7-11 students.
Our colleagues across the university also run their own outreach activities throughout the year. More information and links to specific departments can be found on our Outreach across Queen Mary webpage.
Dates for the spring term will be sent on our E-Bulletin to teachers: Join the mailing list.
The day begins and ends at our Mile End Campus (E1 4NS) including a tour of the campus and fun, interactive university focused activities.
For Year 8 students only. Group size: 20-24 students, maximum of three accompanying teachers. Schools will be allocated one Visit Day each.
100% of the students attending must meet one or more Widening Participation eligibility criteria.
There are no attainment criteria to attend a Year 8 Visit day.
The visit is likely to be less beneficial to ‘Gifted and Talented’ students and those involved in other university programmes.
The visit introduces students to the university environment and raises their awareness of the options available, developing confidence, aspiration and a sense of belonging in a higher education setting.
The activities had enough variety to engage every student

The activities were engaging and fun. The day allowed students the opportunity to discover more about university and life as a student

Once a booking is confirmed, we will send you a personalised student data form. This needs to be completed by the parent/guardian of every student in attendance and returned to us 1 week before the event. We will send regular reminders for this information.

Bridge the Gap is a long-term project run by the School of Medicine and Dentistry, which involves students from both primary and secondary schools taking part in hands-on activities to give them a taste of medicine and dentistry as career options..
The Bridge the Gap programme, is a long term project, and has its own specific partner secondary schools:
I didn't know what to expect but I really liked it! It was really fun and interesting.

Students involved return each year from Year 9 until Year 13, and so build on their knowledge and experience, and increase their chances of being offered a place on these highly competitive courses.
Our partner schools also participate in a Health Careers Taster Day that the School of Medicine and Dentistry runs in the spring term for a wider mix of Year 8 pupils. This day gives students the opportunity to visit Queen Mary, and hear more about a wide range of health careers which they may not otherwise have exposure to.
