Our campuses

Queen Mary has campuses in east and central London. Our largest campus, in Mile End, is one of the largest self-contained campuses in London. Located alongside the historic Regent’s Canal, it has everything you need to live, study and socialise, from cafes, bars and a nightclub to a 24-hour library, computer labs and sports facilities.

It’s nice having everything all in one location at the Mile End campus. There’s a real sense of community. Campus is almost like its own little village: our own little space in London.
— Hugo Batista, Information Technology Management for Business with Industrial Experience BEng (2018)

We also have campuses at Whitechapel, Charterhouse Square and West Smithfield for medicine and dentistry students. Postgraduate law students have a campus at Lincoln’s Inn Fields. All of our campuses are close to central London with galleries, museums, cinemas, theatres and parks in the surrounding areas.

Living in east London

East London has been transformed in recent years and is now one of the most exciting parts of London. We're close to Shoreditch and Brick Lane, the Tech City technology cluster, and the financial centres of Canary Wharf and the City. Cycle just over 10 minutes from our Mile End campus and you’ll find the world-class sports facilities at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We are also only 15 minutes from Oxford Circus on the Tube.

Commuting to Queen Mary

Many of our students choose to live at home. As a major commuter centre, London has great transport links, and many students find commuting a convenient and cost-effective choice.

  • The Students’ Union has a dedicated Commuters Society to help students connect with others on their route and find a travel buddy.
  • There are also facilities on campus for commuting students to use.
  • All of our campuses are easily accessible by London’s public transport network of tube, mainline train services and buses. Mile End and Whitechapel are both in Zone 2.
As a commuter to Queen Mary, I haven’t found the experience to be any different than if I’d lived on campus. I still made friends really quickly, I’m involved in lots of societies and I’m active in the Students’ Union. I’ve enjoyed being a commuter.
— Joe Vinson, Law LLB (2019)
