Queen Mary Former Staff Association

Are you considering retiring or are you about to leave Queen Mary?
- If so, why should you join the Association?
- How was it formed?
- What does it do?
- How can you join?

Why should you join us?

We promote social and recreational activities for former staff and their guests. This could include you - and it should! The formula has been successful for an incredible 29 years and still counting.

How were we formed?

The Association was formed following the very first Pre-Retirement Planning Course in 1985, with the blessing and practical support of the (then) Principal, Professor Graham Zellick.

What do we do?

For a small subscription you will be able to join a sociable group of former staff, visit museums, palaces and gardens, savour peaceful river trips, visit the coast, go to musicals, plays and concerts, often at a subsidised cost. There is a splendid Christmas lunch and other social occasions.

How can you join us?

Download the Membership Joining Form [DOC 60KB], email us at or write to:

Miss Sheila Fenn, Hon. Secretary, Queen Mary Former Staff Association, 36 Forest Road, Loughton, Essex, IG10 1DX

Am I eligible?

Membership is open to all former staff from Queen Mary and its predecessor colleges: Queen Mary College, Westfield College, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College and The London Hospital Medical and Dental Colleges. It is open to those who have taken early retirement, have moved on to other employment or whose contracts have expired.

A testimonial

“The cultural visits and entertainment organised by the Association have taken us where we might never have imagined going, or would not have gone to on our own. The excellent company of the group always makes visits so enjoyable.” (feedback from a satisfied member)

A very important distinction

Neither are we an alternative to the Alumni Association nor work in opposition to it. The Alumni Office brings you the important events, achievements and developments from the inside in the life of Queen Mary; the Association operates on the outside (but with memories of the inside), and exists purely for social purposes. Membership of both organisations affords you access to all these enjoyable amenities.
