Queen Mary is involved in a number of innovative partnerships with independent state-maintained schools in the local area, helping to improve standards of education and inspiring young people to fulfil their potential.
Queen Mary co-sponsors the Drapers' Academy, a mathematics and science academy in the London Borough of Havering. The Academy is part of an educational initiative by Havering Council to regenerate Harold Hill, an area that has experienced high levels of unemployment and poor progression to further and higher education. Our co-sponsor, the Drapers' Company, is a City Livery Company with which we have a long-standing partnership.
Queen Mary supports the Academy's specialisms in mathematics and science through close contact with our academic departments and help with curriculum development. Our students also provide mentoring and tutoring. To find out more, see: www.drapersacademy.com
Queen Mary is the lead partner in a new National Challenge Trust School, St Paul's Way Trust School in Tower Hamlets, just a 20-minute walk from our Mile End campus. Also on the school's Trust are King's College London, the Institute of Education, the University of East London, NHS Tower Hamlets, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the insurance company Catlin Group Ltd.
Queen Mary is working closely with the school, which has a science and a visual arts specialism, to develop an innovative and exciting curriculum designed to attract students into science. In 2011, the school moved into stunning new ￡40m buildings and now has its own theatre, art gallery, observatory, extensive science laboratories, new sports and library facilities, as well as community facilities, including an internet café and a careers centre. In 2011, St Paul's Way was named as one of the 50 most improved schools in England. To find out more, see: www.stpaulsway.org
